Keep the Heat

Posted on Updated on

It’s still hot – and DRY ! I feel like I’ve spent all Summer watering the garden. It will be cold soon enough though, and we’ll be glad of the “stored heat” in all the things gathered and squirrelled away. I dug horseradish root on the weekend and added that to the already harvested cayenne, garlic and onions as a base for fire cider. Fresh ginger and turmeric made it in too, along with a few herbs that called out to me: rosemary, wild bergamot, calendula and echinacea.  Heat to melt Winter’s cold !

Yum, looks sooooo good. One thing I really miss now back from Lithuania and not having my own garden all the herbs and spices and teas of the million flavors, and the picking, and drying, and smelling them in the attic. It is magical. Enjoy!

Hopefully you can wildcraft a few ! I’m hoping to dig more roots if we ever get some rain to soften up the soil.

        What wildroots are you digging?

We did get some rain, so hopefully I’ll get to digging Valerian, Marshmallow, Elecampane, and maybe some Echinacea. Not wild, just in the yard (although they’ve gone a bit wild and are seeding here and there).
